While our society has changed dramatically since St John’s founding more than 800 years ago, our fundamental reason for being never really has. As a community focused charity our aim is, and always has been, to help those most in need in Bath and North East Somerset.
In spite of appearances of wealth and prosperity, the area faces many socio-economic challenges. There are gaps in educational attainment, cutbacks in spending and benefits, poverty and deprivation. Social housing is in short supply and house prices are at an all-time high.
So, it is our duty to try to help those most in need, through a range of forward-thinking social initiatives and partnership programmes, and the provision of almshouse accommodation and associated services.
We help underserved younger people, mature people and those in crisis. We believe in helping to shape a much kinder and more caring community, where everybody, irrespective of age or social environment has the opportunity to thrive and lead fulfilling lives.
