Most people’s perception of homelessness is invariably the person asleep in a shop doorway. However, the reality is far from this. In fact, 4,000 people are currently on social housing waiting lists in the region and there has been a 50% rise in the number of applications for individuals seeking help with debt. Many are the ‘working poor’, unable to afford homes in a city where house prices are 14 x average salaries. We hope you’ll find this short film extract extremely enlightening. Produced by local company, Meaningful Films, we’ve worked with partner organisations such as Julian House, DHI, Mercy in Action and Curo to show the tireless behind-the-scenes work done by local organisations to help this increasingly problematic issue.
