Apply to live here

We keep the process simple and transparent. If you’re interested in living at St John’s, here’s what you need to know.

Eligibility

To apply, you must:

  • Be aged 65 or over
  • Live in Bath or the wider Bath and North East Somerset area
  • Receive Housing Benefit or the housing element of Universal Credit
  • Have less than £16,000 in savings
  • Not have given away more than £3,000 in assets in the last seven years

Availability

We can’t confirm when homes will become available. A home is only offered when a current resident moves on, meaning there is no fixed timeline for vacancies.

The application process

1. Make an enquiry

You (or someone on your behalf) can get in touch in person, by phone, email, or through the Homesearch portal.

2. Receive an application pack

If you meet the criteria, we’ll send you a pack with an application form, via email or post.

3. Submit your application

Once completed, return the form to us via email or post for review.

4. Application review

Applications are reviewed by our admissions team.

5. Final decision

Successful applications are approved by our Board, who allocate the almshouse to those with the greatest need.

6. Offer of an almshouse

If your application is successful and a home is available, we will contact you with an offer.
