  • St John’s offers new funding to support the over 70s

St John’s Foundation’s Funding Support Programme provides financial assistance and practical support to individuals and charitable organisations across Bath and the surrounding area.

This year, we have a new funding pot available to charities through the Joseph Matthews Fund. This funding will be exclusive to charities working with people over the age of 70 who are living in Bath & North East Somerset.

There is £73,000 available to a single charity or partnership looking to tackle isolation and loneliness and looking to improve the wellbeing of our oldest demographic. By 2024, the percentage of people in the region aged over 65 is expected to increase to 23.8%, making it the region of England with the largest percentage of people in this age range.

Our Funding Support Programme currently supports registered charities, excepted charities and Community Interest Companies. Funding is awarded through our Project, Pilot Project, Development and Core Funding programmes.

Not only this, but we also welcome applications from professional referrers on behalf of individuals and families who have reached a crisis point in their lives, providing up to £1,500 towards a wide-range of items and services such as white goods, carpets, debt relief, and much more.

As you may already know, one of the other areas of St John’s which aims to tackle loneliness and isolation is our Community Outreach Service, delivering a number of activities to support people over the age of 55.

Through generous legacy funding from The Joseph Matthews Trust, St John’s is now able to offer this new funding opportunity, providing a platform for us to expand our work within the older community.

We are now welcoming applications which aim to address loneliness, isolation and the improvement of health and wellbeing for older people. Charities will either be seeking to expand their existing projects or to create new initiatives. We would like to see innovative proposals which provide fresh ideas and solutions to existing issues for our older population.

At St John’s, we believe all people should be treated equally and supported to live as independently as possible. We would like to see these values reflected in any applications we receive.

If you would like further information about The Joseph Matthews Fund, please contact our Funding Support team on grants@stjohnsbath.org.uk or call 01225 486400.

Applications are accepted via our online form, please register and submit your application here.
